Historique :	Tableau découvert en 1942 par Froidevaux, aussitôt attribué à Georges de La Tour (1593-1652), publié comme tel par Jardot (1945) et unanimement accepté (Pariset, 1948) ; la découverte d'un autre exemplaire en Italie (acquis en 1948 par le Rijksmuseum) vint infirmer cette attribution : des 1950, l'oeuvre est rejetée par Bloch et Anthony Blunt, puis par Charles Sterling (1951) et François Georges Pariset (1958) ; malgré quelques persistances (Ottani Cavina, 1967), la quasi unanimité des historiens refuse aujourd'hui l'attribution à de La Tour. En 1997, Bernard Reviriego attribue l'oeuvre à Gerrit Van Honthorst (Utrecht, 1594 ou 1604 -1666), ou à son atelier.
